Dr Nick Webb
Director and Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist
Dr Nick Webb is Director of the facility and is a children’s kidney specialist at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
He has been involved in research into new medicines for children for over fifteen years and is also Deputy Director of the Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cumbria Medicines for Children Local Research Network.
His personal research interests lie in the development and testing of new medicines for the treatment of childhood kidney disease, including kidney transplantation and hypertension. In 2009 he was awarded an £850,000 grant by the National Institute for Health Research to lead a multi-centre trial investigating different steroid regimens for the treatment of childhood nephrotic syndrome.

Kathryn Kennedy
Trainee Advanced Practitioner in Paediatrics
Kathryn qualified as a registered children's nurse in 2005, with a Diploma in Children's Nursing with advanced standing. In 2009 she gained a BSc (Hons) in Acute Child Care.
After qualifying Kathryn worked in children's oncology for three years and moved to clinical research in February 2008. In November 2009 she became a senior paediatric clinical research nurse. Kathryn is now training to be an Advanced Practitioner which will enable her to support the research team by taking responsibility for tasks which could previously only be carried out by the PI and providing onsite medical support for the WTCCRF.
Kathryn says: "Every day is different when you work with children and we laugh a lot. Also, with the new facility we are able to provide care in a truly child and family centered way which is very satisfying for the nurses and hopefully gives the children the most positive experience possible."

Jo Guest
Senior Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse
Jo worked as a nursery nurse before gaining a National Diploma as a registered sick children's nurse in 1997. That same year Jo joined the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital as a staff nurse working on the paediatric surgical ward. In 2003 she was promoted to senior sister paediatric nurse.
January 2010 saw Jo become a member of our research team when she was appointed as senior paediatric clinical research nurse.
Jo loves spending time talking and playing with children, and helping them and their families.

Vicky Parker
Senior Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse
Vicky qualified as a children's nurse in 2004 and worked for two years on a paediatric neuro-surgical ward at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. She obtained a BSc (Hons) in Acute Child Care in 2010.
Since 2006 Vicky has worked at the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility as a clinical research nurse and in 2007 she became a senior paediatric clinical research nurse.
Vicky enjoys working with children and in her current role she is able to have fun with children and their families whilst helping them.

Ruth Ellicott
Senior Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse
Ruth has been working at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital since 2004.
She has previously worked on the respiratory and endocrine ward, high dependency unit and intensive care unit before joining the children's clinical research team in February 2010.
Ruth says that the best thing about her job is being involved in the development of new treatments for children and getting to know children and their families throughout the length of the trial.

Fiona Heap
Senior Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse
Fiona is a qualified registered children’s nurse, with a qualification in neonatal care.
After working for 14 years on the neonatal unit, she then went on to spend three years as a research nurse on the Wilink Genetics Unit working with children and young adults on Enzyme Replacement Therapy Clinical Trials. Following this Fiona joined the Medicine for Children’s Research Network for a further three years.
Fiona loves her job as it not only means she spends the day singing and playing alongside the children, but that she is doing something worth while.

Natalie Plimmer
Senior Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse
Natalie graduated from Salford University in Nursing in 2004 and started her career in theatre at the old Royal Manchester Children’s Hosptial.
She has also spent time working in other departments including A&E and the acute assessment unit before she joined the clinical research team.
Natalie says the best thing about working on the clinical research team is looking after children and making sure that their time in hospital is as easy as possible.

Elisabeth Worsley
Senior Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse
Liz qualified as a registered children’s nurse in 2003.
After qualifying Liz worked at the plastic surgery and cleft lip and palate centre for the North West, Lancashire, North Wales and Isle of Man at Booth Hall Children’s Hospital from 2004-2009 and then moved to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital along with the centre in 2009. Liz has also completed a degree module in the management of a child with Cleft lip/Palate.
Liz joined the team in November 2010 as a senior paediatric clinical research nurse specialising in burns. She is based on the burns unit and works alongside the burns and plastics consultant.

Michaela Turrington
Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse
Michaela has worked at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital since 2004.
During this time Michaela spent two years on a specialist endocrine and respiratory ward, followed by three and a half years on the high dependence unit.
Michaela briefly worked on the Children’s Unit at North Manchester General Hospital in 2009 before joining the Research team in November 2010.
Michaela loves having fun with the children, as well as helping them and hopefully others in the future.

Maggie Amegadzie
Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse
Maggie qualified as a children’s nurse in 1996 and started working at the Central Manchester University Hospitals that same year.
Before joining the research team in 2010 Maggie worked on the Acorn Ward in St Mary’s Hospital for 12 years and as a link nurse for Sickle Cell and Thelassaemia for two years.
Maggie enjoys being able to see the difference the treatment can make to the lives of the children and their families.

Rachel Moon
Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse
Rachel joined the research team in July 2011.
Rachel has worked at both St Mary's Hospital on the children's surgery ward and ward 76 at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital before joining the Children's Clinical Research Facility.
Being a member of staff at the facility Rachel enjoys working with both children and families involved in clinical trials and feels privileged to be working at a facility that is working to improve future health care for children.

Victoria Whitehead Ozkan
Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse
Graduated from Sheffield Hallam in 1996 with a BA(hons) Nursing Studies, Child Branch, has worked on the Paediatric Burns unit at Booth Hall, and PICU at Pendlebury, I have spent much of the last 10 years working as a senior staff nurse at Great Ormond street in the Cardiac ICU, where I also completed the ENB 415 Paediatric Intensive care diploma. I Have also worked in Turkey for a well known holiday company.
Victoria says the best thing about working at the CCRF is working with lots of lovely brave families and children, who show amazing strength and commitment week after week. "I hope to help make a difference to the future care and treatment of these children. The computer games and Ipads are not bad either!"

Lauren Lindley
Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse
Lauren obtained a BSc (Hons) degree in Paediatric Nursing from Salford University. She has previously worked on Ward 85 which specialised in various conditions including respiratory, cardiac, metabolic, endocrine, rheumatology and immunology conditions. Lauren worked there for three and a half years before commencing her post as a Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse at the CRF in August 2012
Lauren says the best thing about working at the Children's CRF is working closely with children and families and being able to be part of new innovative research trials.

Lisa Duffy
Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse
Lisa has worked in the NHS since she qualified as a children's nurse in 2004, first working on the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Pendlebury Children's Hospital. She then spent 5 years working in the Children's Accident and Emergency Department at Booth Hall Hospital/Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. Lisa joined the Children's Clinical Research Facility team in September 2012.
Lisa says that the children's research facility is fun and friendly and it's lovely to watch the children enjoy themselves whilst they are here.

Laura Edwards
Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse
Laura was a student nurse at Salford University doing her clinical practice at Pendlebury and Booth hall children’s hospitals. She started working in Booth Hall theatres in January 2009, until she moved to the new RMCH. Completed my Recovery Care module at Edge Hill University in Sept 2011 and Mentorship in 2011 at MMU. In Aug 2012 Laura started working at the CCRF.

Nicola Phillips
Healthcare Support Worker
Nicola joined the research team in November 2011. She has previously worked as a nanny and came to WTCCRF from a GP Surgery.She is a qualified nursery nurse and holds an NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care.
She enjoys working closely with the same families each week, and knowing that the medicines the facility is working with will help even more children in the future.

Dipesh Patel
Data Administrator
Dipesh joined the CRF in September 2010. Since joining the team he has been very helpful in supporting the nurses by dealing with a lot of the paperwork associated with clinical research. He obtained a BA (Hons) degree in Business & Management at Liverpool John Moore's University. Within CMFT, Dipesh previously worked with the admissions team in St Mary's Hospital for 5 years dealing with inpatient waiting list for general Gynaecology and Oncology Gynaecology .
Dipesh says that the staff here are very friendly and although he does not have much interaction with the children, he likes to help them any way possible even if it involves setting up an xbox.
