About Us

Our 6-bedded research facility opened in November 2009 and is solely dedicated to carrying out paediatric clinical research. Our unit is the first of its kind in the North West, and one of only a small handful across the UK.

Working with researchers, children and families, we carry out all types of clinical research, with a specific focus on the testing of new medicines to ensure that they are safe and effective in children of all ages.

Since opening in November 2009 we have had overwhelming success, to the extent that we doubled our nursing team in the first twelve months alone.

We are based in the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, the largest single-site children's hospital in the UK. This means we have access to all of the hospital's state-of-the-art equipment and resources, so children can take part in our studies alongside ongoing treatment. Our experienced staff are specialists in children's care, with great experience in both research studies and clinical practice.
